Middle School Grading Rubric

Physical Education

2008-2009

 

Students will be graded in four key areas.

 

1. Participation & Social Development- 40%

            -Students are expected to be prepared for class everyday.

            -Appropriate footwear is required- This means students should be wearing sneakers! School dress code applies to     physical education class and students should be prepared for indoor and outdoor activities on any given day.

            -Students are expected to participate to their fullest ability for that day.

            -Students who do not come to school prepared for the days activities will still be expected to participate in an activity deemed appropriate by the teacher.

            -A student can still earn fifty percent of their participation points for that day if they are unprepared and still participate.

            -Students will move and interact with classmates respectfully.

            -Teamwork and cooperation are important aspects of physical education.             

            -Inappropriate behavior and disrespectfulness to classmates and teachers will not be tolerated.

 

**Inability to meet these standards will result in loss of participation credit for that day.

 

2. Fitness- 20%

            -Students will be expected to participate in a daily fitness routine and log. Special attention should be given to improving fitness and setting attainable goals.

            -Grading for this unit will be based on effort, participation and improvement.

 

3. Written Exams- 20%

            -Written exams will be administered at the end of each unit. (For example, Soccer, Basketball, etc.) Students will be responsible for material covered in class.

 

4. Skill Development- 20%

            -Students will be graded on improvement of skills in a particular unit. Students who participate to the fullest of their ability everyday will see improvement in their skills.
